Forest School and Bushcraft
We are able to offer our pupils an exciting programme of outdoor learning in our own grounds at Brantridge School Forest School. Staff are Dom Rudd, Level 3 Forest School Practitioner, and Donna Williams, Level 2 Forest School Practitioner. Pupils will spend 2 periods a week in the woods.
Forest School is an inspirational process that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.
Forest School is a specialised learning approach that is child-led and play-based. Pupils enjoy a range of fantastic activities including:
• Shelter design and building
• Learning about the safe use of tools, knots and lashings
• Environmental studies
• Safe campfire building and lighting
• Campfire cooking
Apart from being fun, these activities can have an important impact on our pupils. Through the use of small achievable tasks and free play, the boys' confidence will increase, their physical abilities will develop and their natural curiosity will be stimulated. This will impact positively on their willingness and ability to engage in the classroom.
